Iyengar yoga focuses on proper body alignment, while concentrating on long holds. This yoga is practiced using props like blankets and straps. Jivamukti yoga involves more of chanting of mantras, meditation and studies of spiritual realms.

Though you may think it easy to learn yoga from a book, it is better to hire a professional yoga trainer to teach you, or join a yoga class for beginners. These yoga trainers will help you stay focused on your yoga, and guide you with the best yoga positions based on your present fitness levels.
If you don’t have the time or facility to join a yoga class, an alternative you have is to get a good beginner yoga video or online training, where you can start learning yoga from the comfort of your home.
Though all these yoga classes may offer a comfortable life, it is always better to consult a doctor before starting yoga, especially if you have chronic problems like heart diseases, back pain or arthritis.
Requisites of yoga
To succeed in doing yoga, there are some requisites that have to be met. Though age is no bar in practicing yoga, those under 12 years should not practice yoga postures for long. Asanas too have to be maintained for short spans of time. Make it a point to practice yoga for at least half an hour to 45 minutes a day for maximum results.
It is always better to do yoga in the early morning hours; however it is possible to do it in the afternoon, as long as your stomach is empty while practicing. This means that you should eat food about 3 hours, and liquids about an hour before practicing yoga.
Practice yoga in a spacious, bright, airy and clean place that is away from disturbances. Don’t practice yoga on bare floor; use a mat or carpet below. Wear comfortable, loose and clean clothes while practicing yoga.
Yoga is not advised during pregnancy and menstruation. And last, but not least, you have to have faith in yoga and what you do, to reap its benefits.
