Vegetarians Favorite Daal Khara Masala Recipe

Meat lovers usually hate daal/lentil. But if they get to know about the nutritional value of different beans and lentil they will realize that most of these are healthier to have as compared to red meat etc. A vegetarian can tell you the worth of lentils. In Asia a variety of recipes are followed to cook different types of lentils and are enjoyed by all. Sometimes lentils are cooked individually, sometimes mixed together and sometimes cooked in combination with vegetables or meat. But undoubtedly lentils surely offer great addition to main course dishes. In summer when you are feeling down and lazy a lentil recipe added with pickle or salads can be very refreshing and light.

In this short write up a very simple recipe of daal khara masala is shared with you. Try this recipe can enjoy with your family in lunch or dinner.

Recipe Ingredients

White lentil: 250gm
Onion sliced: 1 medium
Tomatoes: 2 Chopped
Green chilies small: 4
Water: 4 cups
Oil: 1/4 Cup
Coriander powder: 1 tsp
Chili powder: 1 tsp
Salt: 1 tsp
Ginger garlic paste: 1 tbsp
Turmeric: 1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds: 1/2 tsp
Yogurt: 2 tbsp
For Baghaar
Onion sliced: 1
Red chili whole : 4 to 5
Ghee: 1/4 Cup
Garlic chopped: 1/2 tsp
Ginger chopped: 1/2 tsp
Cumin whole: 1/2 tsp

Recipe Method:

First of all, soak 250grams of white lentil for 30 minutes or preferably for 3 to 4 hours and after that boil with 4 cups of water and add 1/2 tsp turmeric, 4 green chilies and 1/2 tsp white cumin seeds till half
done.  Now heat 1/4 cup oil, add 1 sliced onion, fry till golden, add 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste with 2 chopped tomatoes and 2 tbsp yogurt, also add 1 tsp salt, 1tsp chili powder, 1 tsp coriander powder and 1/4 tsp turmeric and after adding all these spices fry well with addition of little water. Now add in the boiled lentil, fry well, then add ½ cup water, cover and cook about 15 minutes till done at low flame. Lastly give baghaar, garnish with chopped coriander and mint leaves.

For Baghaar:

Heat 1/4 cup ghee in a pan, add in 1 sliced onion, 4 whole red chili, 1/2 tsp chopped garlic, 1/2 tsp chopped ginger and ½ tsp whole cumin seeds. Fry for 1 minute. Pour on top of lentils mixture.

This mouth-watering “Main Course” recipe for Daal Khara Masala can be prepared in 35 minutes and serves 2-3 people. You serve with naan or chapatti.
