Pregnancy Tips and Guide

Many people hold false ideas that conception is easy and that they would not face problems in conceiving. However, researches show that conception may prove difficult for some couples, even though they may be very healthy. There are however, many claims that certain practices may allow early and successful conception, even to the point of selecting the gender of the child. While the scientific basis of these claims remain to be proven, the efforts to naturally conceive and various proposed methods in this regard remain a very important area of fertility studies.
Many of these claims for successful conception are held by natural or alternative medicine practitioners, who use various natural rythms and herbal treatments to improve the chances of pregnancy. Some of the most popular are the use of preseed, the soft cup, the fertell, the use of charts for calculating the timing of ovulation, use of creams which contain progesterone etc. These methods are mostly based on the concept that the longer the time the sperm is viable and present in the uterine tract, the greater the chances are of the female getting pregnant.
The common scientific methods that are used in aiding conception are firstly, the wait and watch technique. In this technique, the doctor would first advise the couple to wait for a certain period of time before starting to consider any treatment options. The time of ovulation may be variable from one person to another and calculations based on the menstrual period cycles are arbitrary calculations due to differences in body types. Secondly, the health of both the partners must be good in order to improve the chances of conception. Therefore, it is advised that the partners must have good health and have healthy eating habits, and abstain from alcohol and stress. Too much stress to conceive may also lead to stress in the body, which may in fact lead to resistance to getting pregnant. Therefore, both partners are advised not to take anxiety or stress and give their bodies the necessary time it may need before pregnancy takes place. Exercising regularly, also improves the chances of conception.
The third most common method that is employed is the identification of ovulation cycles and the determination of sperm motility in men. The egg once released from the ovary remains in the body for two days on average. During this time, if the egg gets fertilized, it will deposit itself within the wall of the uterus of the mother, and pregnancy would take place. Should there be however, a delay or early introduction of the sperm, conception may not take place. Therefore, timing the possible time where ovulation is likely to take place is calculated by taking the history of the menstrual cycle and the number of days it takes for each cycle to get completed. Once determined, the doctor will usually indicate a window phase during which the couple should try to have the maximum amount of intercourse. In most of the cases, this results in successful conception.
There are however, certain problems and cases where the conception may not take place, and should there be a failure of conception, it is important that the cause is sought out. Both partners may have equal chances of having fertility problems, and therefore, it is essential that both have themselves examined and tested. Through proper treatment, the chances of conception may be comparable for normal couples.
