Women and Holiday Stress – Reducing Holiday Stress

A holiday or special occasion is supposed to be a happy time but for a woman the stress increases when she thinks of all the cooking, cleaning, and serving she has to do. She is expected to be a perfect host, with a wide smile on her face and delicious dishes to serve, but it is only the woman who knows what she is actually feeling. If you have been a victim of such a burden on a happy time like a holiday, you know what we are talking about. You guessed it. It is commonly known as the holiday stress.

The best way to deal with this type of stress is to plan in advance and divide the responsibilities with your spouse and older kids. Not one person can do all the cleaning and then cook, receive guests, entertain them, and then again do the cleaning when they leave at night. This has to be understood by everyone in the household. On special occasions, women are also expected to look their best, wear the perfect outfit, and appear fresh and cheerful. However, with all that underlying stress, the woman doesn’t feel like dressing up at all.

Sometimes the stress is due to not knowing how your guests spend the special day and what exactly to prepare. Asking around friends and jotting down important points usually help to reduce this type of tension. If your guests prefer a certain dish, make sure you know the recipe in advance and buy everything that is needed one day before the occasion. Plan with your spouse to order some side dishes to be home delivered at the time of meal. This will take some burden off your shoulders and make you relaxed with the rest of the cooking.

Do not expect everything to be perfect but just in case start a little early than planned. That doesn’t mean not taking a good night’s sleep or skipping meals. Just wrap up everything a bit earlier the night before the big day and go to bed. This way you will be able to wake up early the next day and spend some time arranging things. Dress up casually to save the real dress for the time when guests will actually start arriving. When you are done preparing everything in the kitchen, take a shower, blow dry your hair, and give yourself some time alone applying make-up and getting ready to receive the guests.

Some women feel pressurized on a special day because they think they’re not looking as beautiful as they should. Well, the best way to deal with this type of stress is to keep it as simple as you can. Choose an outfit that perfectly fits you and you feel relaxed and comfortable in it. Buy matching accessories beforehand so that you don’t have any trouble in fishing for the right bracelet, the ideal pair of earrings, and the best necklace. Also, try to wear a comfortable pair of shoes and not something you are wearing for the first time in your life. This way you will feel less stressed when the guests will be around.
