Shahid Khan Afridi the name that is not in need of any introduction all over the cricketing world. His real name is Sahibzada Mohammad Shahid Afridi. But, he is popular among the people of all ages, caste and cultures as Shahid Afridi. He born in the Khyber agency on March 1, 1980. He is a well known Paksitani player and is playing since 1996 and till date he played 334 ODI (One Day International) 27 tests and 46 T20Is (Twenty 20 Internationals). On October 2, 1996 he made his debut in ODI against Kenya and test debut on October 22, 1998 against the world leading team Australia.
Shahid Afridi jumped into the cricket world at the age of just 11 or 12. According to him “ I loved cricket but, took it seriously in 1993-1994. I played as a domestic player for Karachi Cricket Club initially. Me and my brother started playing cricket after watching the handsome and talented Imran Khan.” This unfamiliar 16 year old boy got recognition as a household name immediately after his 1st match. Shahid Afridi made an impressive entry in International cricket with a sensational and historic 37 balls century in his second ODI against Sri Lanka on 4th October 1996 at Nairobi. Putting the strong Sanath Jayasuriya into shade is not a miracle. Afridi plays like a tiger on the pitch and is an awesome hitter. He started playing as a bowler switched to a spinner and secured an important place in Pakistan cricket team. He is also known as attacking batsmen of Pakistan and is the best fielder as well. No doubt, he is the superstar of the new millennium.
Afridi also served the national team as a captain. In 2009 Pakistan won ICC world Twenty20 and after that Younis Khan declared retirement from Twenty20 cricket. PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) elect Shahid Afridi as the next Twenty20 captain. Initially he was awarded captanicy for a month which is replaced with a permanent replacement afterwards. But, unfortunately in January 2010 he was caught for biting the ball on the 5th ODI series in Australia. Later on, Afridi pleaded guilty for ball tampering and unluckily, Afridi was banned for 2 Twenty20 internationals. Later Shahid Afridi captained Pakistan team in world cup 2011 where Pakistan reached into the semi final.
As a person Shahid Khan Afridi is very jovial and friendly person and is extremely shy around girls. Afridi belongs to a Pathan family and got married to his cousin and have 3 cute baby girls. In an interview he stated that his main focus is his family and kids. For him his parents and sibling are the most important people in the entire universe. He respects elders and all his team members he enjoyed a marvelous friendship with his team and he trust and loves them a lot. He is observed as a religious person and has a strong believe in ALLAH’s decisions. He loves to listen music and enjoys spending time with family and friends.
Afridi has very flamboyant personality of the Pakistani cricket team. He is also known for his notorious reputation and was linked with several Indian actresses. But, no one can deny his popularity and is known on national and international ground as BOOM BOOM AFRIDI.
Boom boom Shahid Khan Afridi was part of the Pakistani squad participating in 2015 world cup in Australia/New Zealand. He retired from one day international (ODI) as well as test cricket after the world cup.
