1.       Parveen Shakir

Pehaps the most famous urdu poetess, Parveen Shakir (1952-1994) was give ‘pride of performance’ by government of Pakistan in recognition of his great poetry work. Her famous book Khushbu was given prestigious ‘Adam Gee’ award. She has 6 published books including ‘Khushbu’ and ‘Sad Burg’.

Kaamal-e-zabt ko khud bhi azmaon gee

main apne haath se uski dulhan sajaon gee

Woh keya geya rafaqat ke saray lutf hi gay

main kis se roth sakon gee, kisy manaon gee

2.       Noshi Gilani

Noshi Gilani – a famous Urdu poetess- was born in 1964 in Bahawalpur. So far she has published 6 poetry books inlcuding ‘Udas honay ki din nahin’ and ‘Pehla lafz muhabat likhna’. Now a days she is living in Australia where she has established Urdu Academy.

Teri khushboo nahin milti, tera lehja nahin milta

hamain tu sheher main koi tere jaisa nahin milta

Bhala uske dukhon ki raat ka koi madawa hai

woh maan jis ko uska khoya howa bacha nahin milta

3.       Kishwar Naheed

Kishwar Naheed-(1940- ) a famous Urd poetess- was given prestigious Pakistani award ‘Sitara-e-Imtiaz’ for her great services for Urdu poetry.  She holds master degree in economics and is founder of ‘Hawa’ charity foundation. She was born in UP, India and migrated to Lahore after partition of India.  So far her 6 poetry collections have been published.

Kabhi nazar tu aa, taskeen-e-iztarab tu de

meri khuli howee aankhon ko koi khawab tu de

Jawaz dhoond na barson ki ranjashon ka magar

kareeb aa ke tamasha-e-ijtenab tu de

4.       Shabnam Shakeel

Shabnam Shakeel (1942-2013)- a famous Urdu poetess – had a master degree in Urdu literature. She won prestigious ‘Pride of Performance’ award by government of Pakistan for her huge contribution to Urdu poetry. She published 4 Urdu poetry collections.

Sookhy hont, sulagti aankhen, sarson jaisa rang

barson baad dekh k mujh ko, reh jay ga won dang

Mazi ka woh lamha mujhko aaj bhi khoon rolay ga

ukhri ukhri bataen uski, ghairon jaise dhang

Dil ko pehle hi dard ki demak chaat gai thee

rooh ko bhi abb khata jay tanhai ka zang

5.       Samina Raja

Samina Raja – a famous Urdu poetess- was born in Rahim Yar Khan in 1958. She holds master degree in Urdu literature. So far she has published 12 poetry books. Other than poetry, she also did work on Urdu prose and translation. She died on October 31, 2012 due to cancer.
